COVID-19 scare: Tamil Nadu returnees denied entry to village in Odisha

Bargarh: Three migrant labourers returned from Tamil Nadu were denied entry to their village even after completing quarantine period in Odisha.

The incident was reported from Mulbar Gram Panchayat under Bhatli Block in Bargarh district.

According to reports, Sankirtan Suna, Rajendra Suna and Umakant Seth of Sardhapali village under Bhatli Block were staying at an institutional quarantine centre set up at Kashipali village after they returned from Tamil Nadu during lockdown. After successfully spending 14-day quarantine period, they were sent to village for home quarantine.

However, the villagers opposed their entry. Fearing spread of COVID-19 infections in the community, the irate locals drove the returnees and their families out of the village.

With no option left, the returnees along with their families are staying at a thatched house in a forest near the village.

The victims alleged that the Sarpanch, who is vested with Collector power to deal with COVID crisis, failed to sort out the matter.

However, the local authorities and district collector were unavailable to comment on the issue.
