Tihidi: A man met his watery grave and another was rescued in critical condition after getting washed away by rainwater today at Gajipur village of Dolasahi panchayat under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak.
The deceased man was identified as Biswaranjan Mohanty from Gajipur and the injured as Sourajit Nayak from Paliabindha village of Bhadrak.
According to an eyewitness, the fatal mishap occurred when the two were fishing in Kundi river in the district. Due to incessant rain that battered the district for the last few days and a fresh low pressure area formed, river water has surged leading to the untimely death.
On being informed by locals, a team of fire services personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation. After a frantic search for nearly an hour, Sourajit was rescued in critical condition. Later, the body of Biswaranjan was fished out, a member of the team expressed.
Local police sent the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. The body was sent for post-mortem. Police have registered a case in this connection and initiated a probe.
