10, 000 trucks stranded on Odisha-WB border at Lakshmannath

With about 10, 000 trucks parked on the double-lane National Highway No. 60 at Lakshmannath on the Odisha side of the state’s borders with West Bengal due to the ongoing truckers’ strike, it’s apprehended that the flow of traffic on the highway may come to a grinding halt if the situation persists.

The inter-state border check-gate at Lakshmannath remained blocked all day from 8 AM in the morning on Sunday.

Following picketing by truckers at Baleswar, trucks coming from Kolkata, Kharagpur, Midnapore, Belda, Burdwan, Sealdah etc into Odisha are stranded at Sunakania since Saturday. More than 3,000 trucks are stranded near Lakshmannath and around 10,000 more between Sunkania to Basta. Crew members of these stranded trucks are facing great difficulties with a few of them falling sick.

The helper of a truck (OR 15 J-7185) coming from Kolkata towards Baleswar fell sick Saturday after being stranded for the whole day. The helper was shifted to the GK Bhatt hospital at Jaleswar where doctors declared him brought dead.
