Trapped elephants rescued in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj dist

Four elephants, including two females and a calf, that had fallen into an abandoned dry dug well near Sanasola forest under Dukura Forest range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district were successfully rescued by Forest department personnel after 19 hours of with the help of local villagers this afternoon.

On being informed by the locals, Forest department employees used a JCB earthmoving machine to widen the ditch to rescue the elephants with the help of the villages that had fallen into the ditch at around 4 PM yesterday.

The elephants had strayed into the Sanasola village from the nearby Simlipal sanctuary in search of food, said Forest department officials.

The elephants after their rescue have left for the forest on their way to the Simlipal sanctuary, they added.
