11 women workers ‘rescued’ in Odisha

Phulbani, Aug 14:

Police rescued 11 women including three minor girls from Charichhak under Daringbadi block in Odisha’s Kandhamal district while they were being illegally trafficked to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh Wednesday to work as labourers, Daringbadi police said today.

The police have also detained a woman labour contractor from Puri in this connection for interrogation, police added.

The woman from Puri was allegedly taking the 11 women including three minor girls and six young women to work in a prawn processing unit at Bhimapuram in Andhra Pradesh, police said.

They were rescued from Charichhak while the woman contractor was taking them to Brahmapur by bus, police added.

The womenworkers are from Kerubadi, Bhramarbadi and Padanketa areas of Kandhamal district, police said.
