12 places record above 40 deg Celsius in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: There seems to be no let up from intense heat wave conditions in Odisha as 12 places record maximum day temperature above 40 degrees Celsius today.

As per the Regional Meteorological Department forecast, Sambalpur remained the hottest placed in the state today with 44.7 degree Celsius. Bolangir was the second hottest town in the state with 44.5 degree Celsius.

The other towns which breached the 40 level mark are: Angul (41.7), Jharsuguda (43.6), Keonjhar (40), Sundargarh (42), Hirakud (43.7), Talcher (41.2), Bhawanipatna (42.6), Titlagarh (44), Malkangiri (42) and Sonepur (44.6).

The weathermen predicted that heatwave conditions will prevail over districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, and Nuapada.

There seems to be an undeclared curfew in places mostly in western Odisha districts which has literally turned into a cauldron. People prefer to stay indoors as early as 8 am and venture out only after 5 pm to avoid the scorching heat.
