135 students awarded degrees at NLU-Odisha convocation

Cuttack, May 7:

Chief Justice of India Justice (CJI) Tirath Singh Thakur today graced the third convocation ceremony of National Law University Odisha (NLUO) in Odisha’s Cuttack where as many as 135 students were conferred with degrees.

The ceremony was held at the amphitheatre of the varsity where 135 students were conferred with degrees of which 17 of them were given gold medals for excelling in their respective disciplines.

Prior to the ceremony, the CJI was given a guard of honour and a high mast tri-colour was unfurled.

CJI Thakur urged the successful students to act as agents of change and help people irrespective of their caste, creed and gender.

Besides, Thakur, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Supreme Court Judge Justice Dipak Mishra, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Vineet Saran, NLUO VC Srikrishna Deva Rao and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Of the 135 students, 108 received LLB degree including BA LLB and BBA LLB. This apart, 25 students were honoured with LLM degree and two were awarded with PhD degrees.

Notably, the CJI is on a two-day visit to the state. Thakur was scheduled to attend the NLUO convocaiton on the first day and attend the centenary celebrations of the first sitting of the circuit Court of Patna High Court for Odisha here.
