14 cyber crime and economic offence police stations to come up in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As instances of economic offences through internet have become abundant, the Odisha government today decided to set up 14 cyber crime and economic offence police stations. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the creation of such police stations in 14 police districts.

As per the decision, the cyber crime and economic offence police stations will come up in UPD Bhubaneswar, UPD Cuttack, Kenojhar, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Rourkela, Angul, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, Balangir and Kandhamal.

The cyber crime and economic offence police stations will have jurisdiction over the whole police district and investigate cyber crime and specified economic offences. Meanwhile, regular police stations will continue to have the concurrent jurisdiction in investigation of cyber crime and economic offences.

A total of 154 executive posts including Inspector, SI, ASI and Constable have been created for the new specialized police stations. Six posts of experts – two IT analysts, two finance/account analysts and two cyber forensic analysts have been created for each of the 14 police stations.

The Chief Minister also announced three existing cyber police stations of Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur will be rechristened as cyber crime and economic offence police stations.

A release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) mentioned based on the performance of the 14 cyber crime and economic offence police stations, more such police stations might come up at other places in due course.
