1500 litre adulterated edible oil seized in Odisha’s Cuttack; one held

Cuttack: Busting an adulterated edible oil manufacturing unit, the Twin City Commissionerate Police seized around 1500 litres of spurious oil from a godown at Jagatpur in Odisha’s Cuttack last night.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off about the duplicate edible oil production, Cuttack police raided the godown and seized 1500 litres of adulterated oil contained in 100 tins. This apart, labels of various edible oil brands were also seized from the spot.

One Anadi Behera of Bhandarisahi in Mangalabag here has been arrested in this connection. However, another person involved in the adulteration managed to escape.

As per police sources, sub-standard oil was being procured from Andhra Pradesh at a cheap rate of Rs 12-15 per litre and mixed with mustard and vegetable oils.

The adulterated oils were then packaged and sold at a price of Rs 80 per litre in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Jajpur districts.
