170 Maoist supporters surrender in Odisha’s Malkangiri

A day after 200 Maoist sympathisers surrendered before police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, 170 more red rebel supporters surrendered before the IIC of Maithili police station today.

“170 Maoist supporters today surrendered before the IIC of Mathili police station and BSF officials. There are eight militia members, three village committee members and three members of Chetana Natya Mandali among them. Fed up of the extremist ideology and violence of the red rebels, the supporters took the call to surrender,” said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra speaking to reporters.

“We will launch developmental schemes of the government for the welfare of the surrendered villagers. Besides, they will be provided with assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government,” he added.

Notably, while more than 1200 Maoist supporters, Village Committee members and Jana Chetana Mandali members have surrendered in the past one month alone, over 2,000 have surrendered in the past six months.
