18-44 age group to be given Covid jab in Odisha’s five municipal corporations initially

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today stated Covid vaccination of people in the age bracket of 18 and 44 years will be carried out in the five municipal corporation areas of the State initially.

In a letter to the District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, CDMOs and PHOs, Health and Family Welfare Department’s Additional Chief Secretary PK Mohapatra stated as the vaccine manufacturers are able to supply low quantity of vaccines currently, the government is starting vaccination of people aged between 18 and 44 years in five municipal corporations of the state, where the positivity rate of Covid-19 infection is very high.

The letter further stated, however, as the vaccine supply improves, people from 18 to 44 years in other districts will provided with the vaccines.

The State has five municipal corporations – Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Berhampur Municipal Corporation, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation and Rourkela Municipal Corporation.

The Covid vaccines will be given to the 18 and 44 years age group at government vaccination centres. The vaccination session will be planned for 18 to 44 years from 8 AM to 1 PM and for 45 years and above from 3 PM to 6 PM.

The letter also directed officials to segregate the vaccine stock of central supply and state supply and its utilization and record the data on daily basis at all cold chain points and district level.

As the State government approved to set up government sponsored vaccination centres in private hospitals, it can be used as an extension of government CVC for vaccination of 18-44 age group only, the letter read.

The vaccines will be supplied to private hospitals free of cost. The private hospitals will be allowed to charge Rs 100 per dose as service charge for vaccination of beneficiaries in the age bracket of 18 to 44 years.
