18 more COVID-19 positive cases detected in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha increased to 39 today evening after samples of 16 persons from Bhubaneswar tested positive for the deadly virus.

Official sources said out of the 16 new positive cases, 15 persons belong to Bomikhal area. All suspects and contacts will be isolated and tested.

They added the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already sealed Bomikhal area. This apart, cluster containment has been put in place and house to house survey is going on.

The Health and Family Welfare department urged people not to panic and stay indoors.

Worth mentioning, today alone, 18 COIVD-19 positive cases were detected in the State which is highest in a day so far.

Earlier in the day, one person from Bomikhal and another from Kapila Prasad area of Bhubaneswar tested positive for the virus.

Till yet, 32 persons of the total cases are residents of Bhubaneswar.

In Bhadrak, three COVID-19 cases were detected whereas one each was tested positive for the virus in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri and Kalahandi.

Currently samples of suspected cases are being tested at RMRC, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Official sources said Health Secretary NB Dhal asked the Municipal Commissioners, Collectors and CDMPHOs to provide triple layer surgical masks to persons under quarantine at home and in facilities.

This apart, Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited has been asked to supply triple layer surgical masks for all field workers doing surveillance work, staff providing essential services and ambulance drivers, the sources added.
