Puri: Saswat Ranjan Sahoo, an 18-year-old artiste of Odisha’s Puri district, has made an 1870 model of a penny-farthing bicycle using thousands of matchsticks to mark the occasion of World Bicycle Day today.
Saswat took seven days to complete the model, which is of 50-inch length and 25-inch width. He used a total of 3653 matchsticks for the project.
The teenager said nowadays, people are opting for cycling to maintain a healthy lifestyle during the lockdown, Also, cycling is an eco-friendly transpiration option. Keeping this in view, he created the model to raise further awareness among the public about use of bicycle.
Saswat’s first matchstick project was a sculpture of Lord Jagannath. He has also created sculpture of a radio.
