2 lakh more visitors thronged Odisha’s Nandankanan zoo in 2014-15

Odisha’s famous Nandankanan zoo attracted two lakh more visitors during financial year 2014-15 than the previous year. The total number of visitors during the year was 29, 47,7 75, itse best-ever performance.

The zoo was visited by 1016 foreigners this year.  The authorities also facilitated free entry for 4734 physically handicapped students during the year.

The extra two lakh visitors have given the zoo authorities more than Rs 1 crores of revenue.  The zoo managed to collect an overall revenue of Rs 7,16,84,467 during this period from ticket sales and other services, zoo sources said.

As per data provided by zoo authorities, while 21,28,478 visitors visited the zoo in 2009-10  getting the zoo Rs 3,55,79,914 in revenue, it was Rs 4,76,32,913 from 24,01,513 visitors in 2010-11.  In 2011-12, the zoo earned a revenue of  Rs 5,69,04,075 from 24,06,900 visitors; in 2012-13 the revenue was 6,45,22,088 from 29,05,903 and in 2013-14 the revenue was Rs 6,64,49,038 from 27,61,557 tickets.

During 2014-15, the zoo managed to sale 1,86,218 more tickets and earned an incremental revenue of Rs 52,35,429 as compared to 2013-14.
