2 ‘web journalists’ arrested on extortion charge and blackmailing in Odisha Capital

Last year, editor of the web channel had been arrested for telecasting defamatory content against renowned sprinter Dutee Chand. 

Bhubaneswar: Police today arrested two web journalists on the charge of extortion and blackmailing in Bharatpur area of the State Capital today. The accused were identified as Ranapratap and Sanu who work with a news portal website.

They were arrested after owner of a guest house filed a police complaint alleging that the scribes were demanding money and blackmailing him by falsely implicating him in a sex racket. As per the complainant, the accused duo said they learnt that the guest house was being used to run a sex racket and threatened him of a police raid if he did not pay Rs 2 lakh. When they again demanded another Rs 70,000, the complainant reached out to the police. While filing the complaint, he furnished an audio recording of the scribes demanding money from him as evidence.

After registering a case, police carried out a search in the guest house. They found no evidence on the alleged flesh trade and later apprehended the accused journalists.
