20% additional seats to be created for admission in rural colleges in Odisha

To facilitate the admission of more number of students in the state, the Odisha government has decided to create additional seats up to 20% over and above the sanctioned strength, allowing admission of local students in +2 and +3 colleges located in rural areas from the current academic session 2014-15.

Odisha Govt LogoHowever, the Higher Education department has stipulated certain guidelines for the colleges seeking creation of additional seats. One of the conditions is that the colleges authorities have to give an undertaking to the effect that they will manage the additional intake with their existing facilities and will not demand any additional aid from the government.

“The admission for the local seat shall be completed in all respect at respective colleges within 20 days from the last date of vacant seat admission process, which will be notified very shortly. Accordingly, the respective colleges will schedule the admission process suiting their convenience,” said Ajay Kumar Nayak, joint secretary of Higher Education in a letter to the regional directors of Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Berhampur.

Besides, the additional seats to be created for the local students can not be filled up by transfer admission and only fresh admission cases would be entertained.

“The applicant must not have taken admission anywhere during the normal period of e-admission i.e from first selection through vacant seat admission in any of the SAMS colleges. Only in the colleges located in rural/Block/NAC areas and having no vacancies out of the normal sanctioned strength,  local students will be accommodated against additional seats to be created 20% over and above sanctioned strength wherever there is necessary,” read the letter.

However, government colleges located in urban areas under the jurisdiction of municipal corporation or municipalities will not come under this category. The self financing colleges can to create additional seats for local students, sources in thedeprtment said.
