Over 200 Maoist supporters surrender in Odisha

Over 200 Maoist sympathisers surrendered before police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

The Maoist supporters include nine militia and five village committee members who laid down their arms before the police at the district headquarters here today.

The villagers hail from Bara and Kopra villages under Mathili police station limits in the district. They surrendered before SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra.

Police said that necessary arrangements will be made for them for their rehabilitation under the surrender and rehabilitation policy.

“We will rehabilitate them under the surrender and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government and take necessary steps to ensure the welfare policies of the government reach them,” SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said.

With this, nearly 2000 members of banned CPI (Maoist) have surrendered before police in the district in the last one year of which nearly 1000 have laid down arms in the last two months.
