The local ASHA worker had advised the parents of the deceased infant to get the baby administered with polio drops even though he was suffering from chicken pox and measles, the family of the deceased infant alleged.

The infant developed symptoms of sickness quarter of an hour after he was administered with the drops and was taken to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Pattamundai where the doctor declared him dead, they alleged.

However, the in-charge of Pattamundai PHC has ruled out polio drops being the cause of death of the infant.

He said the child was suffering from chicken pox adding that the death could be due to that or anemia.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and only after the report is out that the real cause behind the death can be ascertained, the PHC in-charge stated while adding that the district authorities have been informed about the incident.
