24 from Odisha stranded in mid sea while returning from Chennai

Bhubaneswar: Around 39 labourers, including 24 from Odisha who were returning from Chennai through waterway are now stranded in mid sea as the fishing boat ran out of diesel midway near Palasa in Andhra Pradesh.

As per latest reports, a boat with diesel from Ramayapatna has gone to rescue the stranded persons. Meanwhile, a team of Ganjam district administration and Berhampur police have reached Ramayapatna. Once the fishermen come back, they will be kept in a quarantine centre for 14 days.

Out of the 39 labourers, 15 are from  Andhra Pradesh and 24 are from Ganjam district of Odisha. Of the 24, 11 farmers are residents of Ramayapatnam, nine are from Pati Sonpur, three from Markandi and one from Digipur in the  district.

Earlier on April 25, 38 persons, including nine from Andhra Pradesh reached at Patisunapur coast in Ganjam district in a fishing boat from Chennai. The 38 persons, including  29 from Rangeilunda and Chikiti blocks had traveled over 1000 km in the Bay of Bengal. Upon their arrival, the district administration officials collected thekir Aadhaar card details and mobile numbers and sent them to quarantine centre.
