245 elephants died in Odisha in 3 years: Minister Pradip Amat

Bhubaneswar: As many as 245 elephants have died in Odisha during the last three years, said Forest & Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat in the State Assembly today while replying to a question by Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik.

Out of the 245 elephants, six died due to poaching, the minister said in his reply.

He further said that no tiger died in the state in the last three years.

During the period, a total of 47 persons were arrested over their involvement in killing elephants and smuggling tusks and tiger hides, said Amat.

As many as 39 tusks, one tiger hide and nine tiger nails were recovered from the possession of the accused, the minister added.
