Rising Student today raced to the semifinals of the ongoing NM Bhuyan Memorial Old Monk Club Soda Cricket tourney being organised by the Mukteswar Cricket Club at the BJB College grounds here by beating powerful rivals Juvenile Cricket Club by 51 runs despite putting up a modest total of 186 runs in 35.3 overs.
Rising student won the toss and elected to bat. But barring Subhrajyoti Mishra (48)’ Deepak Behera ( 35) and Fernando Lawrence (33), the batsmen fell prey to a devastating spells by Pradipta Das ( 6/32) and Sumit Sharma (3 for 29).
Rising Student’s innings folded up with only 185 on the board.
Although the target appeared eminently gettable, the Juvenile batsmen proved unequal to the task. Despite a brave knock of 55 by Mohammed Hashim and a gritty 25 by Ramachandra Behera, the team lost all its wickets for just 135 runs in 35.4 overs , 51 runs short of the target.
For Rising Student Fernando Lawrence excelled with the ball as well and claimed 3 wickets for just 10 runs. Jamala Mohapatra (2/29) was the other successful bowler.
Pradipta Das,adjudged the Man of the Match for his great bowling performance,received a cash award if Rs 1000 from Sandeep Mohapatra.
Biswabharati will take on Sahid Sporting on Tuesday.
