2nd bridge over Brahmani: Locals oppose land acquisition in Sundergarh

Rourkela: Tension mounted at Dandiapali village in Sundergarh district after locals to be affected by the second bridge over river Brahmani disrupted the land acquisition process for the project today.

Sources said land acquisition work for construction of an approach road of the second bridge over Brahmani river was underway at Dandiapali this morning. Earlier, compensation was given to locals to be hit by the project. However, the residents opposed the land acquisition process today demanding more compensation.

Later, police detained 11 activists from the spot. Besides, seven platoons of police force were deployed to avoid any further law and order situation in the region. The acquisition work later resumed in presence of the district Magistrate.

In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced construction of the bridge in the Steel City while foundation stone for the project was laid on 2017.
