Nearly 3 lakh 62 thousand people across 6 vulnerable coastal districts have been moved to safer places before very severe cyclonic storm Phailin strikes the Odisha coast , state Revenue and Disaster Management minister Surya Narayan Patro told media persons soon after a review meeting at the state secretariat today. Patro said all settlements within 5 kms of the coast have been evacuated over the last 24 hours.

The Coastguard is trying its best to rescue 18 fishermen who have been caught in the storm off the Paradip coast, Patro said. The fishermen who had gone for deep sea fishing two days ago.
