3 days left for NFSA roll out in Odisha; many yet to get cards

While National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the first phase will be implemented in Odisha from November, distribution of digitized ration cards are yet to be completed in many districts.

More than 12,000 beneficiaries in the districts of Malkangiri and Bolangir are yet to get their digitized ration cards.

Out of the 14 districts where NFSA will be implemented from November 1, distribution of digitized ration cards remains to be completed in some districts. Hence, supply of subsidized food grains to beneficiaries in these districts from November 1 will not be feasible.

Secretary, Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Madhusudan Padhi however, maintained that 26, 40,000 beneficiaries in these districts will get their supplies of subsidized food grains between November 16 -21.

On the other hand, distribution of digitized ration cards for implementation of NFSA in the remaining 16 districts will begin from tomorrow. The distribution of digitized ration cards for the second phase implementation of NFSA will be launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at an official function in Baripada.

A total of 201, 79,605 beneficiaries from 52, 88,681 families will benefit under NFSA in the second phase, said Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma.
