3 killed, 4 critical as cars collide head-on in Odisha capital

In a tragic incident, three persons were killed and four others critically injured after two cars collided head-on near Tomando in Odisha capital late last night.

The deceased were identified as Prabhat Behera (42) of Gopalpur village in Janla area, Happy (35) of Kalapathar area in Khordha and Papu Mohapatra (24) of Rakma area in Nayagarh.

According to reports, the mishap took place when a Scorpio SUV was going towards Khordha and a Ford Figo car carrying seven persons was coming from the opposite direction.

The two speeding vehicles collided head-on on Tomando overbridge here as the driver of the Scorpio lost control over the wheels following which it crossed the road divider and dashed into the Ford Figo car killing a person on the spot and grievously injuring others.

Later, two more succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.

While two of the injured ones were admitted to Capital Hospital, two others were taken to AIIMS here. One of them was later shifted from Capital Hospital to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as the victim’s condition deteriorated.

The seven persons travelling in the Ford Figo car were staff of a catering service. They were returning after finishing their work at a function of an engineering college in Khordha.

Meanwhile, police have seized huge cache of ganja from the SUV. The driver of the vehicle is being interrogated over the seizure of the contraband.
