Wild bear allegedly beaten to death by injured duo following death of three villagers

Nuapada: At least three persons were killed and two others were injured after a wild bear allegedly attacked them inside a forest at Samarsing area under Lakhna police limits in Nuapada district.

The deceased persons were identified as Ratan Majhi (60), Nakul Majhi (60) and Rabi Rana (27), all from Samarsing village.

According to reports, Ratan Majhi had been to the forest on Friday for collecting firewood where he succumbed in a fatal bear attack.

In search of the elderly man, four other villagers — Nakul Majhi, Rabi Rana, Kuna Majhi (26) and Parameswar Majhi (50) — went to the forest where they found body of Ratan Majhi. During the period, the wild animal allegedly attacked Nakul and Rabi. The bravehearts duo fought with the bear, but lost their lives.

Kuna Majhi and Parameswar Majhi, who were injured during conflict with the bear, allegedly killed the wild animal following death of their fellow villagers.

On receiving information, the officials of Forest Department and Fire Services reached the spot and recovered three bodies from the forest. The injured villagers duo has been admitted to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
