3-yr-old girl rescued alive from borewell after hours of ordeal in Odisha

Angul:   A three-year-old girl who had accidentally fell into a borewell in Odisha’s Angul district in the morning finally rescued alive, an official said.

The infant was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

Confirming the news to media, Fire Services DG BK Sharma said the little girl, identified as Radha, was rescued at around 4.45 pm after hours of hard work by fire brigade personnel.

Sharma in a tweet said that a parallel hole of 15-16 feet depth was dug nearly 6 feet away from the borewell hole. Then a tunnel was dug to connect to the borewell, said Sharma in a tweet.

He said a fireman reached the spot and rescued the 3-year-old girl who was then taken to a hospital.

Sources said the girl was rescued after almost six hours of rescue operations by fire fighters and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force personnel.

Worth mentioning, Radha, daughter of Santosh Sahu, had accidentally fallen into a bore well at around 8 am while playing at Golasar village under Handapa police limits in Angul district today.

On being informed, local police and firemen rushed to the spot and started operations to rescue the girl.

When all efforts by the personnel turned futile, the district administration has sought assistance from Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) to rescue the girl child.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik praised the rescue teams by saying such acts will inspire public confidence in Govt machinery.

On the other hand, Angul Collector Anil Samal hs ordered Executive Engineer (Irrigation Division) to probe into the incident.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also praised the work of fire service personnel and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team for their commendable work and wished the girl good health.
