31 lakh beneficiary families of Odisha-sponsored housing scheme get aid for repair work

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today allocated Rs 1,444 crore assistance to 31 lakh families for house repair work. The 31 lakh families, who are beneficiaries of the State-sponsored rural housing scheme, have got Rs 3,000 each in their bank accounts.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik allocated the amount to the beneficiaries on a virtual mode.

The State Cabinet during its meeting on December 21, 2021, chaired by the Chief Minister decided to provide financial assistance to the beneficiaries.

In his address, Patnaik said, “We have kept our words. In 2014, the Cabinet decided to transform all kutchha houses into pucca. We have been working in this direction. Since 2014 till date, the State government has provided pucca houses to 31 lakh families.”

Also, Patnaik said the people of 14 districts who were affected by Cyclone Fani are still waiting to get a pucca house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. As the State government has decided to provide Rs 5,000 each to persons waiting for a house under the Central scheme for repair work, they will get the assistance soon in their bank accounts, the Chief Minister added.

He also spoke to some beneficiaries of the State government-sponsored rural housing scheme.

Among others, Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena, Chief Secretary SC Mahapatra, 5T Secretary VK Pandian and senior officials were present.
