32 fake Rs 500 notes seized from youth in Odisha’s Baripada

The Baripada police yesterday arrested a youth for allegedly trying to circulate fake Rs 500 currency notes and forwarded him to court.

The arrested was identified as Sagen Tudu (20) of Khandahari village under Rasgovindpur police limits in Mayurbhanj district.

As many as 32 fake Rs 500 currency notes were seized from his possession, said Baripada SDPO Abhimanyu Nayak.

According to reports, Tudu was trying to exchange five fake Rs 500 notes at a shop in Sunagadia area here. Suspecting foul play, the shop owner and locals informed police about it.

Police reached the spot, arrested Tudu and brought him to police station where 32 fake Rs 500 notes were seized from him.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Tudu has links with a colour printing unit at Patia in Bhubaneswar. All the fake notes had the same serial number for which it is suspected that the accused had made coloured photocopies of a single original note, the SDPO said.
