3403 Odisha students appear in JEE Advance exams

Bhubaneswar, May 24:

About 1.5 lakh students from all states and Union Territories including 3403 from Odisha appeared in the All India JEE Advance examinations which began today.

The examination will have two sittings. While the first sitting will be held from 9 AM to 12 PM, the second sitting would be held from 2 PM to 5 PM.

In Odisha, the students appeared in the examinations at the two centres in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

Candidate among the top 1,50,000 (all categories included) in JEE Main examinations 2015 are eligible to sit for the JEE Advance examinations.

About 50,000 students had appeared the JEE Main examinations of which 3403 students have qualified for JEE Advance examinations.

Candidates qualifying the JEE Advance examinations will be eligible for admission in 16 IITs and the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

The results of the JEE Advance examinations would be announced on June 10.

It may be mentioned that the Union HRD ministry has made relaxation in the cut-off marks for qualifying the JEE Mains examinations following a vacancy of over 1000 seats in the IITs last year.

The cut-off marks which was 115 last year, has been reduced to 105 this year.

“Besides, the ministry has also repealed the 20 percentile system. Under the new system, students who have secured 75 percent marks in the Plus Two examinations and scored the cut-off marks will be eligible for admission”, said a senior official of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
