Mere 8 per cent qualify for JEE Advanced from Odisha

Only 7.88 per cent of the students who sat for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main exam from Odisha have qualified for the advanced exam, conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the results were declared on Wednesday evening.

Around 47,000 students from Odisha had sat for JEE Main test out of which 3700 have qualified for the next round. While, the number of students from Odisha who had qualified JEE Mains in 2015 was 3408.

At 5 pm in the evening CBSE announced the all India results which can be accessed on websites: http://jeemain.nic.in/,  cbseresults.nic.in.

Nearly, 12 lakh students had sat for the examination on April 9, this year of which 19,820 have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) Online while 1,78,408 candidates have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) offline test.

According to details provided by CBSE, the cut off scores for JEE (Advanced) for General category students was 100, while that of OBC students was 70. The cut off for SC candidates was 52 and ST candidates 48, according to data released by CBSE.

Nearly 40,000 girls have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) test while the rest are boys, according to data released by CBSE.

Candidates who secured positions among the top 1.5 lakh ranks are eligible for JEE Advanced examination.

Candidates who have cleared JEE Advanced examination will be eligible for admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), in Bhubaneshwar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar and Varanasi.

Besides, they students can also apply to Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad which has 18 academic departments covering a varied range of courses in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management programmes.

JEE Advanced exam will be held on May 22, 2016.
