4 killed, 7 injured as marriage party SUV hits truck in Odisha’s Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: In a tragic incident, at least four persons died and seven others sustained injuries as an SUV carrying a marriage party hit a truck on NH-217 near Turlakhaman under Kesinga police limits in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, late last night.

According to reports, as many as 11 persons were returning in the ill-fated vehicle from Pipalpadar in Balangir district after attending a wedding ceremony.

The SUV rammed into a paddy-laden truck killing four occupants of the vehicle, including 3 women, on the spot and leaving others grievously injured.

On being informed about the mishap, police rushed to the spot, rescued the victims with the help of locals, and shifted them to the Kesinga Hospital. They were later taken to the District Headquarters Hospital here for better treatment.

A child is among the injured ones who was later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla.

Police have started an investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances under which the road accident took place.
