4 Maoists, 3 of them women, surrender in Odisha

Four Maoists, three of them women, surrendered to police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

As per information provided by the police, they are all members of CPI (Maoist) of Padia and were involved in many incidents of violence in Odisha including Sodi murder and Dandiki attack etc.

The surrendered Maoists have been identified as Sunita Wonchemi, Kushi Kuthami, Iti Kunjami and Ganga Karatapi.

All four of them were armed cadres.  They said they decided to surrender due to exasperation with the Maoists ways, exploitation and torture of tribals in Maoist camps and relentless attack by the police.

“They will be provided all possible assistance as per the policy liad down by the Odisha government to help them come back to the mainstream of society,” said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
