44 Maoist supporters surrender in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Sep 8:

In a major setback to the Maoist organisation in Odisha, 150 supporters of CPI (Maoist) surrendered to the police in Malkangiri district today.

Among those who surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra were four armed militia and two village committee members selected by the Maoists, police said adding the surrendered militants included 18 women.

They all hail from Gumukaguda and Entaguda villages under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district and worked for the Padia Dalam of the CPI (Maoist), police said.

“They will be provided with monetary assistance in line with the rehabilitation package policy of the government,” said Mohapatra.

It may be mentioned here that 120 Maoist supporters of Silakota village of the district had surrendered before the police on August 31.
