45 die of ‘sunstroke’ in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as 45 people were reportedly died due to sunstroke in Odisha but seven cases were confirmed so far, official sources said today.

According to Deputy Special Relief Commissioner, Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra, the government is looking into 38 cases out of 45 reported sunstroke deaths.

“Seven deaths have been confirmed as sunstroke deaths as per the latest report,” Mohapatra said.

Odisha has been reeling under extreme heat for the last couple of days with temperature hovering at over 40 degrees at most of the places.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Centre the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) has issued heat wave warning for the next two days.

As many as eight places in the State were sizzled under scorching sun with recording temperature above 40 degrees Celsisus, the MeT office said.

Angul was the hottest place in the State today witnessing temperature of 41.9 degrees Celsius.

In the afternoon, light to moderate rains lashed some parts in the State including Bhubaneswar bringing a much needed a respite from sweltering heat.
