4G battle intensifies in Odisha; Airtel, Reliance first off blocks

With more and more service providers launching trials and full-scale services, the 4G market in Odisha is getting ready to witness an intense corporate battle.

While leading mobile phone and internet service provider Airtel has already rolled out its 4G services in select parts of the state, Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio Infocomm recently rolled out its 4G Wi-Fi services trials in the capital city.

Reliance Jio will cover four places of the city such as OUAT campus, Gopabandu Chhak, Raj Bhawan road and Surya Nagar for 4G speed Wi-Fi service.

Customers can enjoy the free limited duration 4G Wi-Fi in these areas by using smartphone, tablets and other wireless devices during the trial phase. The company would roll out its commercial operations soon based on the observations of the trial period. It has set up 27 access points in these four areas and can handle up to 1000 customers at a time.

Among other existing mobile service providers of the state, Vodafone India has also confirmed that it will launch its 4G services in the state by end of the calendar year 2015. The company plans to roll out its 4G operations in the state in the first phase of roll out along with Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kochi.
