YRC camp
A five-day Inter-state Youth Red Cross (YRC) study-cum-training camp organised by the State unit of Youth Red Cross, a part of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), kicked off today at Red Cross Bhawan here on Thursday.
The camp seeks to foster the spirit of volunteerism among youth hailing from different parts of the country, providing assistance to people as well as to know each other and their cultural ethos, the organisers said.
More than 200 YRC volunteers and counsellors from the states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir and all 30 districts of the state are participating in the 5-day camp.
Gracing the occasion as the chief guest, Bijaya Kumar Mohanty, MLA, Bhubaneswar (Central) thanked the organiser for arranging this training programme.
“Being a politician, first of all I am a volunteer and my work is to provide service for downtrodden and slum dwellers in the city. Remembering the contribution of the late Biju Pattnaik for our state, who instilled a sense of volunteerism among the youth, I urge those taking part in the event to work right from heart and be a leader in every place,” he said.
Dr Mangala Prasad Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB, said this camp will help the volunteers to build their capacity to deliver humanitarian services to the most vulnerable people in the society.
During the 5-day camp, volunteers will be trained on various programmes and practices such as history of Red Cross movement, fundamental principles, first aid, HIV/AIDS, health and hygiene, voluntary blood donation, road safety, leadership and yoga.
This apart, YRC has arranged a mini marathon on January 26 which will start from Red Cross Bhawan and culminate at CYSD.
Among others, Dr Ambika Prasad Nanda, UNDP, Nagendra Nath Das, Honorary Joint Secretary, IRCS-OSB and other officials of YRC were present in the occasion.
