5 killed as truck hits auto-rickshaw on NH in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, as many as five persons were killed as the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding coal-laden truck on NH-53 at Patharakhamba chhak in Kamakhyanagar area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, today.

The deceased were identified as Adikanda Samal (48), Pahali Samal (45), auto-rickshaw driver Ananta Samal (35), Ankur Samal (54) and his son Kalia Samal (14). All of them hailed from Bangura village under Kamakhyanagar police limits.

According to reports, the road accident took place early this morning when the victims were heading towards Muktapasi for some work.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the five occupants of the three-wheeler died on the spot.

The auto-rickshaw was also mangled due to the accident. The driver and helper of the truck fled the place after the incident.

Tension ran high at the spot of accident as irate locals staged road blockade demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased.
