5-year old girl crushed to death by speeding truck in Odisha’s Nuapada

Khariar: Vehicular traffic was disrupted as irate villagers staged a road blockade after a 5-year old girl was crushed to death by a speeding truck on NH 353 in Khariar block of Odisha’s Nuapada district here today.

The deceased minor was identified as Dimple Sunani, daughter of one Hara Sunani of Sanamaheshwar village within Khariar police limits here.

As per reports, the truck was heading towards Raipur from Khariar when Dimple was crossing the road and came under the vehicle’s wheels leading to her death on the spot. While the truck sped away after the accident, villagers chased the vehicle upto 1 km and managed to detain the vehicle at Badamaheshwar. The driver however managed to flee.

Meanwhile, angry locals blocked the highway and demanded adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased. Khariar police on getting information reached the spot and tried to assuage the agitators assuring them of needful action, after which the situation was brought under control. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
