50-year old man trampled to death by tusker in Odisha

In yet another  incident of elephant attack in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, a 50-year old man was  trampled to death by a tusker in Thumabuda reserve  forest under Hatibari police  station of  Sundargarh district on  Sunday morning.

Forest officials recovered  body of  the deceased on Sunday afternoon and informed Hatibari police officials  for post-mortem.

Sources said a  person identified as Raj Kumar  Naik (50), a resident under Hatibari police station, had been to
Tumabuda reserve forest on Sunday morning to collect wood and mushroom.  While he was returning, a tusker reportedly came in front of him and crushed him to death.

After some time, when forest officials noticed the body, they informed Birmitrapur forest range officer  J.Oram. He  went  to the spot and the  forest officials recovered the body of Raj Kumar Naik on Sunday afternoon.

According  to forest officials, a compensation of Rs.10000/- has been given to family members of deceased for his cremation.

“We have given Rs.10000/- to  family members of the deceased and the rest Rs.2.90 lacs will be given to them after completion of al formalities by them.” said  J.Oram, Forest  Range Officer, Birmitrapur.
