54 more test COVID-19 positive in Rourkela Special Jail

Rourkela: While the Steel City  has been witnessing a spike in COVID-19 positive cases in the last couple of days, Rourkela Special Jail  has become a major cause of concern as 54 more undertrial prisoners from the jail tested positive for the virus in last 24 hours.

With this, the jail has reported total 119 positive cases in the last one week. The cases include five staff. 

The new patients, all male, are symptomatic with influenza like illness. They have been shifted to COVID Hospital. Meanwhile, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) sanitised the entire jail premises to curb spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, jail authorities said the number of positive cases in the jail might not increase further as Raid Antigen test of all inmates has been completed.   

Today, Sundargarh district reported 88 positive cases taking the total count to 2,805,  including 1071 active cases.  Besides, 21 COVID-19 patents have succumbed to the virus in the district so far.
