6 arrested for kidnapping engineering student in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate police have arrested six persons for allegedly kidnapping Anuj Jha, student of a city-based engineering college.
The arrested were identified as Dev Arpit Mishra (22), Priya Ranjan Mallick (29), Jyoti Prakash Mohanty (25), Chandan Dakua (25), Girish Naidu (22) and Abhimanyu Das (42).
Police have seized one Travera vehicle, one Pulsar bike, one bullet and four mobile phones from their possession.
According to reports, Jha was abducted by them from Jagamara area here at around 1:30 pm yesterday. His brother had lodged a complaint with Khandagiri police in this regard following which the cops rescued him last night and arrested the accused.
“Around 7-8 persons came in a Travera SUV and kidnapped me. They took me towards a village near Ocean World in Phulnakhara. They initially demanded Rs 10 lakh from my family for my release and later asked for Rs 5 lakh. I could recognise one of the them as I had met him a year ago as a common friend,” said Jha.
