6 kids among 9 drown during Kartik Purnima in Odisha

In adding a painful note to the boat sailing celebrations of Kartik Purnima in Odisha today, nine persons including six children have drowned  in Odisha .

Two girls belonging to Shankuntalapur village of Jajpur district were drowned after they slipped into the Genguti River when they had gone to float boats to celebrate Kartik Purnima.

The girls were fished out of the water but could not be saved.

In Balasore district two brothers met their watery grave while trying to collect tiny boats in Badabhanga village under Khantapada police limits. The brothers were seven years old, and three years old.

While, in Kendrapara district, two boys in separate incidents drowned in Chapali canal in Mahakalapada while collecting paper boats while a four-year-old drowned in a pond in Khamala in Derabish area.

Two woman and a girl child drowned in Ib river when a boat, while carrying them, capsized near Khait village in Jharsuguda district.

Kartik Purnima, the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik, also known as Boito Bondano is celebrated in Odisha by floating small miniature boats, with lamps, betel leaves, crackers fruits and coins, early morning in water bodies like river and ponds.
