6 students fall ill after consuming food laced with phenyl in Odisha

Balasore: As many as six students of a private college fell sick after allegedly consuming a dish laced with phenyl here in the district.

The victims have been hospitalised after their health conditions deteriorated.

According to reports, six students of Jogendra Regional College at Rupsa fell ill after having lunch prepared at a mess in the afternoon. While four of them (women students) are undergoing treatment at Rupsa Community Health Centre (CHC), two critically ill students were admitted to the  District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Balasore.

Source said that cook of the mess had inadvertently poured phenyl into dal (a food item). After consuming the poisonous food, the students complained of health complications.
