60 two-wheelers seized from bike looter gang in Odisha; 7 arrested

Balasore: Busting a bike lifting racket, the Sahadevkhunta police have seized as many as 60 motorcycles and arrested seven persons in this connection, informed Balasore SP Niti Shekhar at a press meet here today.

Following several complaints of bike thefts in the district, a special team was formed which nabbed the looters, the SP said.

The arrested are identified as Ashis Mohanty of Mayurbhanj, Mrutyunjay Nayak, Purna Ch Jena, Nasiruddin Saha, Manoranjan Dalei, Sushanta Das and Subala Charan Mahallik, all hailing from Balasore. They were later forwarded to court.

The bikes were seized after conducting raids in Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and West Bengal, Shekhar said.

The looters used to steal bikes from busy places using master key and sell the vehicles in rural areas at low price, the SP added.
