7-day lockdown declared in panchayat of this Odisha district

Sundargarh: In view of spike in daily counts of COVID infections at Balisankara Gram Panchayat (GP) in hotspot Sundargarh district, the Sarpanch declared a complete lockdown at the panchayat for seven days to contain spread of the deadly virus.

The lockdown will remain in force at Balisankara GP from April 16 to April 24, an official release stated today.

With fresh restrictions imposed in the panchayat, all commercial establishments will be closed and people’s movement will be banned in villages under the GP.

However, the shops selling essential commodities and dairy products will remain open for two hours from 7.00 am to 11.00 am for consumers during lockdown, the release stated.

The State Government has already enforced micro containment restrictions at Telijor revenue village under Balisankara GP.

Today, Sundargarh district has reported 523 new COVID-19 cases, the second highest, in last 24 hours in Odisha.
