3 killed, 30 injured as bus overturns in Odisha’s Astaranga

Astaranga, May 24:

In a tragic incident, at least 3 persons died and over 30 others sustained injuries as the bus carrying them overturned into a canal near Jiunti Chhak in Astaranga area of Odisha’s Puri district today.

According to reports, the accident took place this morning when the private bus ‘HariOm’ was on the way to Paradip from Astaranga.

The driver of the ill-fated vehicle lost control over the wheels reportedly due to steering failure following which the bus turned turtle into a canal.

While three persons, including the conductor and helper of the bus, died on the spot, the injured were admitted to Kakatpur hospital.

As many as 20 of the injured ones were later shifted from the Kakatpur hospital to Bhubaneswar as their condition deteriorated.

On the other hand, irate locals staged road blockade near Jiunti Chhak burning tyres demanding compensation for the families of the deceased.

Police officials reached the spot and pacified the locals following which the blockade was withdrawn.
