70-ft-high water tank collapses in Odisha’s Rourkela

Rourkela: A 70-feet-high water tank constructed by the Public Health Engineering Organization (PHEO) at Civil Township in Odisha’s Rourkela city collapsed today.

An office of the Western Electricity Supply Company of Odisha (WESCO) was severely damaged under the impact of the collapse.

Till last reports came in, presence or absence of staff inside the damaged office building was yet to be ascertained.

Many motorcycles and bicycles parked near the water tank were also damaged, reports said.

The tank having a capacity of 2 lakh gallon was built around 30 years ago with a purpose of supplying drinking water in Civil Township area. It was in an unsafe condition and not maintained properly, locals alleged.
