700 SI posts to be filled up, 500 retd ASIs reappointed: Odisha DGP

700 vacant posts of sub inspector (SI) of police will be filled up in Odisha soon, DGP Sanjeev Marik said here today.

“Besides a decision has been taken to reappoint 500 assistant sub inspectors (ASI) of police who had retired at the age of 58. These ASIs will remain in service till they attain 62 years of age”, informed Marik briefing newsmen after reviewing the law and order situation at the southern range headquarters here.

The DGP said these measures will go a long way in solving the acute shortage of policemen in the state.

Admitting that traffic problems in the state’s major towns are getting worse Marik said steps will be taken soon to solve them.

The DGP informed that his department will be very soon presenting a blueprint to the government to introduce commissionerate policing for Brahmapur town. He assured that the system will be introduced in the city very soon.

“Maoist violence has come down in the state. After Sabyasachi Panda’s arrest Maoist organization in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal has weakened” claimed Marik.

The DGP made an appeal to those who had been misled by Sabyasachi Panda and other Maoists to join the wrong track to return to the mainstream.

“Emphasis will be laid on police stations responding and providing quick solutions to problems faced by the people. Subjecting people to harassment at police stations is not appropriate”, Marik said.

He said ‘Ama Police’ and civil policing will be further strengthened.

The top cop expressed his concern over the rising number of murders of senior citizens in Brahmapur over the last few days. He said the new SP will be holding a meeting with senior citizens staying alone in the city and will find solutions to their problems.
