77 percent posts in BPUT are yet to be filled up, admits Odisha minister

The Odisha government has admitted that a large number teaching and non-teaching posts including that of the vice chancellor are lying vacant in the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).

Out of a total of 93 sanctioned posts of administrative officers, teachers and non-teachers including the vice-chancellor, only 23 percent of posts have been filled up so far, the Employment and Technical Education minister Sanjay Dasburma informed the State Assembly in reply to a question by BJP member Dilip Ray on Saturday.

Besides, there have been a large number of vacant posts in five technical colleges that come under the jurisdiction of BPUT, he added.

Giving the details, the minister said while 17 out of 20 posts of professors have fallen vacant in the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), all 22 associate professor posts and three out of 23 posts of assistant professors are also lying vacant in this institute.

In Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC) in Brahmapur, all seven posts of professor and nine of the 16 posts of assistant professor are lying vacant.

Similarly, the Government College of Engineering (GCE) in Keonjhar presently has only three assistant professors against the required strength of 13 and there has been no appointment for the six sanctioned post of professors.

The plight of the GCE, Kalahandi is also the same as the institute has only four assistant professors as against the sanctioned strength of 16. There has been no appointment in the seven posts of professors, Dasburma added.

He also said the Institute of Management and Information Technology (IMIT) in Cuttack has acute shortage of teaching staff. The institute has only four associate professors at present while there should have been at least seven.

Apart from this, five posts of professor and five out of seven posts of lecturer have fallen vacant, he said.

The minister, however, assured the members that the process for recruitment to fill up these vacant posts has started from July 18 and will continue till August 30.
